Normal Heart Rates - all ages
A heart rate of anywhere from 60-100 beats per minute is normal for an "average" adult. For a well-conditioned athlete, heart rates in the 50s or even 40s can be considered normal. Children have higher heart rates, about 80-120 beats per minute. An infant's heart rate is between 100 and 140 beats per minute. A fetus' heart rate (monitored during pregnancy and labor) should be between 110 and 160 beats per minute.
A normal resting heart rate is anywhere from about 60 to 80 beats per minute. Atheletes may have a slower rate, as low as 40, if they're in great cardio shape. Infants may have higher than 80 and still be normal.
Generally, if you aren't in good shape and your pulse rate is below 60, it's considered "sinus bradycardia", and can result in some problems. If it's too fast it may be an indicator of any of a number of problems. Your doctor can help you figure out if anything is going wrong.

During exersise heart rate can rise dramaticly up to a maximum of aproximatly 190 in young children. As you age your maximum heart rate decreases and it also varies with fitness level
